DEPARTMENT OF ECONOMICS
Shailabala women’s college was established in the year 1913 and it remained as an intermediate college till 1945. In the beginning Economics was an optional subject. Subsequently, it was introduced as a pass subject at the graduation level in 1961. Due to growing demand of the subjects, it was introduced at Honours level in the year 1964-1965. In 2016-17, the department began offering Post graduate course in Economics. And M.Phil in Economics introduced in 2018- 2019.

Teaching/Learning Activities:

Traditional and digital methods are adopted by using physical class room and Virtual class room. Following lesson plan and maintaining progress report, courses are completed in time. Class room tests & assignments methods are followed to improve writing skills.Group Discussion on contemporary issue.

Academic Calendar: | Academic calendar prepared by Govt.of Odisha Higher Education Department is followed in the Department.

Co-Curricular Activities | Once in every week students seminar is held in the department. It is compulsory for the students to make presentations (power point presentations/Oral presentations. Presentations are followed by interactive sessions in which both students and teacher participate.

Extra-curricular Activities: | Essay and Debate Competitions are held in the College & Department. Students Participate in NCC, NSS, Self-defence training programme and competitions like music, dance, painting, Jhoti and sports activities organised by Department and College.
|
Extension Activities in the Department: | Extra Mural Lectures, Swachha Bharat Programme, Tree plantation programmes are arranged every year to give exposure to students. |
Career Counselling: |
Career Counselling programmes are held to acquaint students to adopt different career including Civil Services.

Parent-Teacher Meetings: | Parent-Teacher Meetings are held as per academic calendar. Interaction takes place between Parents and Teachers for each Individual student regarding their academic performance, class room behaviour etc.

Outreach Programme: Study Tour/Industrial Visits/Exhibitions: | Our students got a major exposure by visiting and interacting with Mental Health Institutes/Orphanage, Self Help Groups, various exhibitions like Baliyatra, BaisakhiMela etc. for market study with our Faculty members. |
